CONNOR Wickham’s knee injury has forced him out of tonight’s game against Queens Park Rangers and he remains a doubt for Sunderland’s Boxing Day game against Everton.

The 18-year-old striker hurt his knee challenging for possession in the first half of the Black Cats’s game against Spurs on Sunday and was replaced at half-time by Nicklas Bendtner.

The injury is not a serious one but it has put his involvement in the festive programme in jeopardy and Sunderland are keen not to ask too much of a player who has only just returned from a five-week lay off with a knee problem.

Manager Martin O’Neill said: “Connor won’t play this evening and we’ll see how he is for the Everton game but if there’s any doubt about his fitness for that match, then he won’t be risked.”
