SIMON Mignolet admits he has Sunderland to thank for his elevation to the international arena.
Mignolet is expected to retain his place as Belgium’s number one for tomorrow night’s crunch Euro 2012 qualifier with Turkey after making the breakthrough into the senior side last March.
The 22-year-old played in the crucial qualification victories over Austria and Azerbaijan to lift Belgium up to second in Group A.
But the Sunderland keeper believes he wouldn’t have stood a chance of representing his country at senior level if he had still been plying his trade at lowly Belgium top flight outfit St Truiden.
