MICHAEL Turner insists he had no qualms about swapping Sunderland for Norwich City.

Turner brought an end to his three-year stay at the Stadium of Light 10 days ago after agreeing a two-year deal with the Canaries.

Transfer rumours latest

Despite starting the final 20 games of last season, the 28-year-old was not going to be offered a new contract by Sunderland and faced being axed by the Black Cats when his deal concluded at the end of this season.

And after Sunderland accepted a bid from Norwich for Turner’s services, the former Hull City defender jumped at the chance to join former Newcastle boss Chris Hughton at Carrow Road.

Turner said: “As soon as I knew Norwich were interested I was very keen to make the move. “I watched Norwich quite a bit last season and was very impressed with how they played and the players they have in the squad, so it ticked all boxes for me, really.

“I’m very much looking forward to the challenge.”

Turner made his second pre-season appearance for Norwich in Tuesday’s stalemate at Hull City – playing for an hour against Steve Bruce’s Tigers’ side.

And after the exertions of Sunderland’s pre-season trip to South Korea, Turner is confident he will be ready for Norwich’s Premier League opener at Fulham.

“I’m not far away now in terms of fitness,” he added.

“It did take it out of me going to Korea and then coming back and coming straight to Norwich and taking a few days for the deal to be done, so I’m pleased now I’m back in training and getting games and back on it.”
