Padraig Amond, who scored 30 times in Grimsby Town’s promotion back to the Football League, has proved a natural goal scorer, including a ‘Gazza goal.

His breathtaking bit of skill and cool finish came during Grimsby’s match at Barrow in the National League.

It was reminiscent of Paul Gascoigne’s glorious Euro 96 goal against Scotland at Wembley.

The Irish striker inspired the Mariners to two visits to Wembley, the 3-1 National League play-off final win over Forest Green and a 1-0 defeat in the FA Trophy to Halifax Town.

Amond, who started his career in his native Ireland with Shamrock Rovers, has played – and scored – in the Football League for Accrington then Morecammbe before his move to England’s fifth tier – with spectacular results.
