CHRIS Hyndman returned to the fold to steer Billingham to an emphatic National Three (North) victory over fellow strugglers Rochdale in the basement battle at Greenwood Road.
Needless to say it was a nervous start by both teams following the lay off and the visitors were hard pressed to contain the Billingham attacks despite some great defensive work.
After a scoreless first 17 minutes the home side secured the try bonus with four tries in quick succession, the best from captain Joe Evans who got his second following a blistering break from birthday boy Anth Hyndman.
This added to one by Andy Evans and a typical Craig Shepherd sprint in from distance.
The Billingham momentum was slowed when Mike Evans was yellow-carded just before half-time and although Rochdale pressed hard, they failed to score.
Trailing 22-0, Rochdale looked out on their feet following a brave performance.
Chris Hyndman left the field with the job done but Billingham were not finished.
Screen added two more tries before Peter Evans finished the scoring with a touchdown out wide.
This was a much-needed win by the home side and despite the result, Rochdale never made it easy.
The Billingham coaching squad are now looking at the performance for areas of improvement to ensure the climb out of the relegation zone continues.
