JEMMA Lowe ended her third Commonwealth Games without a medal when Wales were disqualified in the 4x100m relay in the final.

Lowe had suffered heartache in the individual butterfly events – finishing sixth in the 100 and fifth in the 200.

But there was little hope for Wales in the team event unless one of the big guns came a cropper.

None of the major powers suffered any mishaps, the magnificent Australian quartet taking gold in 3:56.23.

England took silver in 3:57.03 with Canada third in 4:00.57.

Wales produced a great swim to touch in fourth ahead of Scotland, J Lo excellent in the butterfly leg.

Unfortunately for the Welsh, the changeover from backstroke to breastroke was deemed illegal and the team was disqualified.
