Graeme Storm enjoys Joburg open in South Africa


GRAEME Storm will pick up bigger cheques in his career but he will be a happy golfer today after his best performance of the European Tour season.

The Hartlepool star finished in a tie for 22nd at the Joburg Open in South Africa.

Storm produced one of the best rounds of the day yesterday at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Course to move up 22 places thanks to a four-under-par 68.

The 35-year-old had started the final day in 44th following his two-under-par 70 on Saturday in Johannesburg.

But he found his touch yesterday to race up the leaderboard.

He began with a bang, birdying the par-five first and then got a two ot the par three second.

Storm had another birdie at the eighth to reach the turn in 34 (three under par).

A five at the par four 11th put a blue mark on his card but he was soon back on the birdie routine, with a three at the 13th and he holed his putt for a two at the short 16th.

Storm bogeyed the 17th but he ended in a style with a birdie four at the 18th. His 68 saw him end on a total of 276 (11 under par) and he picked up a cheque of £9,500. by
