Hartlepool athletes in North Eastern Counties Championship

Five talented junior athletes from Hartlepool are celebrating after having a successful North Eastern Counties Championships at Gateshead International Stadium.

On Day 1 U15 Emma Scarborough (High Tunstall College of Science) and U15 Taylor Allen (Dyke House), who both compete for Gateshead Harriers, had a brilliant first day.

Both girls made it to the 200m final by running personal bests in their heat, Emma 28.5 and Taylor 28.13.

Emma then competed in the 75m Hurdles and ran the final in a PB of 12.26 to secure a bronze medal.

Taylor competed in the High Jump and cleared 1.35m to take home a bronze medal.

Following in her older sister Emma’s footsteps, U13 Hannah Scarborough (St Peter’s of Elwick), who competes for Sedgefield Harriers, replicated her sister in the 70m hurdles to take a bronze medal with a new PB of 13.00.

Then medal total by the end of day 1 was one North Eastern Counties Championship bronze medal each.

On day two Emma and Taylor continue to perform well.

Emma’ first event of the day was triple jump and again Emma achieved a new PB of 9.53m not once but twice in round two and three of the competition.

This ensured that Emma came away as the North Eastern Counties Champion in triple jump.

She then ran a solid 300m on tired legs to come away with a bronze medal in a close race.

Taylor was also jumping but in the long jump and achieved a new PB of 4.35.

Both girls’ last event of the day and championships was the shot put.

Both girls threw 7.85 which meant Emma came away with silver and Taylor came away with bronze.

Joining Emma and Taylor on day two was U15 Ella Maxwell (High Tunstall College of Science) who competes for Sedgefield Harriers.

Ella ran a solid race in her 100m heat to make the final. Also competing was another Hartlepool athlete, U15 Oliver Harrisskitt (Red House School), who competes for Sedgefield Harriers.

Oliver competed in the 800m and long jump being his first track and field competition in his Sedgefield Harriers Vest.
