HARTLEPOOL rugby star Michael Young was today celebrating selection for the England Saxons side for the international season.
The former West scrum-half, who now plays for Leicester Tigers in the Aviva Premiership, has been named in England’s 32-man reserve squad for matches against the A-teams of Ireland and Scotland.
It is a major boost for the 23-year-old, who moved to Welford Road last summer to further his rugby ambitions.
But for all Young helped the Saxons to win the Churchill Cup last June, there were no guarantees he would retain his place in the squad.
Young’s season and his goal of winning the Leicester scrum-half spot have been hampered by a calf injury.
But the former Newcastle Falcons star has made half a dozen sub appearances for Leicester in the top flight, the most recent of which was the 28-23 New Year’s Day victory over Sale Sharks which took the Tigers into the top four
