Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers go on a Poultry Run

MEMBERS of Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers have been on a Poultry Run and racing in the woods over the festive period.

The 31st annual Poultry Run hosted by Loftus and Whitby Athletics Club took place on the Sunday before Christmas.

The race is an undulating multi-terrain race over approximately eight miles and was won by Andy Wiles of Morpeth Harriers in 42:11.

Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers had a good squad at the race, with Paul Wilson and Simon Bennett both having excellent runs and supporting one another around the course.

Paul took the lead in the latter stages and finished 14th in 48:37, with Simon tucked in behind for 15th place in 48:53.

John Davis was the third harrier to cross the finish line in 51:44 (36th), a good minute and half quicker than his time around the course last year.

John Mansfield produced another great performance to finish in 57:02 (90th), with Ian Bilton next in 59:54 (131st).

Andy Kane enjoyed his race, finishing in 62:12 (165th) followed by Nigel Shaw in 63:43 (190th).

First female home for the club was Jan Naisbitt in 70:05 (281st), with Jason Unwin and Steven Howe enjoying their annual trek around the hills to cross the line in 71:37 (300th and 301st).

Julie McGrath was next in 83:58 (420th), with Christopher McGrath completing the Burn Road Team finishing in 105:08 (454th).

David Wallace travelled to Guisborough Woods to take part in the seventh race of the NEHRA Winter Series on On Wednesday, December 28.

The race is a 6.8 mile run over moors with 1,400 feet of

climbing throughout.

The weather was very cold and the ground covered in snow. David had a great run, finishing 83rd in 65 minutes and nine seconds.

Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers host their annual Old Monks 5.5 Mile Multi-Terrain Race this Sunday.
