The Graeme Storm Junior Open will take place at Hartlepool Golf Club on April 7.
Storm, who teed off today in the first round of the True Thailand Classic, is looking to his inaugural youth tournament to encourage new talent and raise money for a good cause.
The £10 entry fee will go to the Finlay Cooper Fund.
The children’s charity, which was set up by former Middlesbrough footballer and ex-Hartlepool United boss, Colin Cooper and his wife, Julie, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
“We’ve had quite a few entries in so far, some from Hartlepool and from over the North East,” said the former French Open champion who shot a two-under-par 70 at the first day of the True Thailand Classic.
“But it would be great to see the numbers grow.
“We’d love to raise money for the Finlay Cooper Fund and we want to see youngsters enjoy playing golf.
“ “It would be great if we could unearth a great young talent, but the main motivation is we want kids to have fun and enjoy golf.”
The tournament will be for seven to 18-year-olds of both sexes and of any level of experience, no handicap is required.
The Graeme Storm Junior Open has been endorsed by this year’s Ryder Cup captain, Darren Clarke, and ex-US Open winner, Justin Rose.
“My first competition as golfer was at Hartlepool and I’m excited to now be staging this one,” added Storm.
The eventwill have three categories - 7-10, 11-14 and 15-18.
