FOUR local golfers were today looking to win places at the biggest domestic event on the domestic calendar – the Brabazon Trophy.

Seaton Carew Golf Club will be staging the FA Cup of the amateur game when they host the prestigious tournament from June 25-28.

And a quartet from the town are attempting to get a ticket to the championship which will feature the best players from the United Kingdom and around the world.

Two Seaton Carew stars will be desperate to come through the Northern qualifying competition at the Ringway Club today – Ian Hendry and Hugh Hamilton.

And there are two Hartlepool Golf Club players in action at the Cheshire course – Jamie Austwicke and Lloyd Bond.

By a quirk of fate, Hendry and Bond are paired in the same group, playing alongside Germany’s Martino Morszeck.

Austwicke has Formby’s Mark Duncalf and the teenage English prospect Gian-Marco Petrozzi, from Trentham GC, as company in his match.

Hamilton will be the last of the local hopefuls on the course, playing in the same group as Royal Birkdale’s Mike Howard and Callum Reay, from Warwickshire Goldf & Country Club.

The North qualifier has a 127-strong field chasing just 30 places for the event at Seaton.
