WEST Hartlepool have ended the season on a high note with their second trophy inside the last eight days.

West Stags, defeated Seaton Carew 22-8 at Hornby Park last night to retain the Pyman Cup, the Hartlepool & District RFU competition for second XVs.

The triumph follows West Bucks’ 62-0 victory over Seaton seven days earlier to win the inaugural Pyman Shield, the new tournament for local third XVs.

With West’s first XV finishing sixth in National Three North it has been a fine end to the season for the Brinkburn club as Stags joint manager Antony Cameron told SportMail.

“We finished runners-up in the CaNDY League so we were a bit disappointed not to have retained that title,” he said.

“But it was good to keep hold of the Pyman Cup again after the Bucks won the Pyman Shield last week.

“The first team have done well in the league so it’s been a good season for the club.”

Three second-half tries by Darren Thomas, Adam Larkin and sub Martin Boatman took West to victory last night, Seaton strongman Murry Stockdale replying with the home score.
