Two young martial artists have been selected to represent England in the World Championships in Italy – and are looking for potential sponsorship to help make their dream come true.

Megan Watt and Peter Gale have made the national team for the Unified World Championships in Carrara, Italy, at the beginning of November.

The Hartlepool Phoenix Taekwondo Club members are appealing for potential sponsors for help with the £3,500 needed to make the trip.

Megan’s mum, Sarah Watt, said: “It is the first time they will have represented England and everyone at the club is delighted.

“They both qualified for selection by finishing in the top three in a light contact kickboxing tournament in South Shields.

“The rough amount needed for trip is £3,500 and if there is anybody interested in supporting either donation or sponsorship can contact Stephen Sewell on 07455 987400 or donations can be made via our just giving page at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/sarah-watt.”

Eleven-year-old Megan attends St Cuthbert’s RC Primary School and has been with the Phoenix club for five years while Peter (nine) attends Rossmere Primary School and has been with the club for three years.

Phoenix Taekwondo is at Whitby Street South and they train on a Tuesday and Wednesday night from 7pm until 8pm with £3 per session. Anybody above the age of six is welcome to join.
