Let the music play! Hartlepool duo's virtual gig for hospice charity #TeamSally

Local acoustic hipster duo Pek and Wanley are to hold a live streamed gig as part of Phil Holbrook's #TeamSally charity which has raised almost £40,000 for Alice House Hospice since 2014.

Phil started the charity in memory of his late wife Sally who was tragically killed in a car crash near Greatham just before Christmas in 2012 and in which he suffered life-changing injuries.

For the last five years #TeamSally has held a charity music day every August with Pek and Wanley, made up of Michael Turnbull and Ian Wanley, performing at them all and headlining for the last three years.

But such live performances are not currently allowed due to coronavirus restrictions.

The online gig will take place on Thursday, August 6, from 8pm on Pek and Wanley's Facebook shared and Alice House Hospice’s page.

It is also part of Phil’s 12 in 12 Challenges where he has pledged to organise or participate in at least one event a month up to his 60th birthday in September including raffles, running, walking, cycling, growing, exhibiting and quiz challenges.

It also was to include Phil’s 30th Great North Run which has been cancelled due to the pandemic.

Phil said: “Pek and Wanley’s live streamed gigs throughout lockdown have been very popular, and when I asked if they would consider replacing their usual annual charity performance in aid of Alice House with a live streamed gig they bought into the idea immediately, which speaks volumes about their support of this special place.”

The gig will be broadcast thanks to invaluable support from Adam Bouabda, of Couch Potato Films.

Pek and Wanley added: “We really enjoy doing the #TeamSally charity music night, and it goes into the next year’s diary, every year, as we finish each gig!”
