TALENTED members of a Hartlepool society are making their own scenery for a stage show which will arrive at a town theatre within weeks.

The Hartlepool Stage Society is getting ready for its forthcoming pantomime.

It will hold its production of The Wizard Of Oz, at the Town Hall Theatre which is in Raby Road. The five-day run will last from Tuesday, November 4, to Saturday, November 8.

Each show will have a 7pm start and there will also be a Saturday matinee which will start at 2pm.

Tickets are £10 for the Tuesday evening performance. For each of the other shows, the cost of the tickets is £12 for adults and £10 with concessions.

Stage Society spokesman Sarah Barton said: “We are even making our own scenery, thanks to our very talented backstage team.”

The show is the first that the society has held in which both the adult and junior sections will perform together.

The society has just marked its 60th year in existence. It was formerly known as the Gilbert & Sullivan Society.

It is a non-profit organisation based in Glamorgan Grove. Members rehearse on a Tuesday and Thursday in the Stage Society Hall, in the Throston Grange Community Centre.

The audience for the pantomimes can expect all the hits from the musical, including Follow the Yellow Brick Road, The Merry Old Land of Oz, and not forgetting Over the Rainbow.

Sarah added: “The senior and junior societies have teamed up to produce this colourful spectacular.

“This year is the 75th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz film, so Hartlepool Stage Society have decided to celebrate this by performing Wizard of Oz, the pantomime.”

Tickets for each of the shows are available from members of the society.
