Cleveland College of Art & Design (CCAD) is putting Hartlepool on this map this June with festivities which celebrate the arts.
The College is presenting a new generation of talent at CCAD Hartlepool’s annual degree exhibition by its third year students.
Visitors will get a chance to view the stunning works produced by the graduates at a degree show. The BA (Hons) degree students will be showcasing their final year creations at an exhibition at the college’s Hartlepool campus on Church Square from 5 – 13 June.
The exhibitions, which last year saw over 3,000 in attendance, are the culmination of years of work by the cream of today’s young designers and artists. On display will be works in fine art, photography, production design for stage and screen, textiles, fashion, graphics, illustration, costume and film.
Alongside the degree show, in collaboration with Hartlepool Borough Council and Seven Stories, the specialist college is bringing the Festival of Illustration to Hartlepool, which will become the home of world-renowned illustrators, cartoonists and comic artists.
The free event will attract thousands of children and young people, families, students and artists from across the north east and the rest of the UK.
With activities to suit every age, the Festival launches on 4 June with a month-long exhibition at the Hartlepool Art Gallery and Central Library, with international illustrators work including Ralph Steadman, John McCrea (Marvel) and Will Simpson (Game of Thrones).
An illustration industry symposium on 5 June will be followed on 6 June with master classes for young and aspiring artists from leading industry experts.
For children, there are storytelling and drawing events in schools and libraries, and prior to the Festival, the College will be hosting “Draw your Superhero” sessions at the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.
Martin Raby, Principal at Cleveland College of Art & Design, said: “June is set to be a fantastic time to visit Hartlepool and be a part of the dynamic and lively arts scene.
“We are delighted to show off our new graduate talent at the degree show, which always proves to be a huge hit.
“We are also very excited to be hosting such a prestigious event as the Festival of Illustration, which will bring visitors from all over the UK.
“The Hartlepool arts scene is certainly alive and thriving this June and we welcome everyone to come along and enjoy the celebrations.”
