PERFORMERS from all corners of the globe staged a spectacular show in their common language of dance.
Billingham’s 50th International Folklore Festival of World Dance got off to a great start at the weekend with its Opening Ceremony and Parade of Nations.
Scores of people lined the streets and festival arena in Billingham Town Centre.
Groups performing traditional displays of their nation’s music and dance have come this year from countries including Mexico, Russia, Georgia, the Cook Islands, Chile, Italy, South Korea, Spain, and Thailand.
Olga Maloney, the festival’s artistic director, said: “The weekend was absolutely brilliant and we are delighted with how it went.
“We had a very good turnout and the weather stayed fine.
“We hope the rest of the week goes as well as it did on Saturday.”
All week there are a variety of performances, workshops and concerts.
There are free demonstrations every day at Billingham’s band stand and ramp in the town centre.
Charges vary for the concerts and workshops.
