A JUBILANT cheerleading academy has won its way to a national finals - but it needs to raise £5,000 to get there.
And now, a fundraising campaign has been launched by the Hartlepool Hawks cheerleading academy to get the money needed to reach the nationals at Telford, in Shropshire.
Bosses say that competing against the very best would be an absolute dream for the students who have already won a string of titles at a regional championships held recently in Newcastle.
But the trip relies on the money being raised to take 45 young dancers to the nationals.
Academy founder Rebecca Taylor said: “Hartlepool Hawks have been given the opportunity to go to British National Championships which is being held on April 4 and April 5.
“The only way our cheerleaders can attend nationals is if, together, we can raise enough money for the competition fees, transport and accommodation.”
Seven teams of Hawks have qualified for the prestigious tournament and that means 45 Hartlepool cheerleaders aged from four to 19 years all hoping to get to Shropshire.
Rebecca added: “The club has come together to plan a range of fundraising events to help our athletes achieve their dream to perform at nationals amongst the very best.
“The programme of events starts with an event this Saturday when the Hawks will be holding a 12-hour sponsored tumble alongside other clubs including the Aeronaughts Trampoline Club who are helping us raise money.”
On Sunday, February 8, a fundraising night will be held from 5pm to 9pm at Owton Manor Social Club. Tickets are £3 and Rebecca said: “This night will include a showcase by the Hawks, fun and games, an auction, bingo, raffles and a disco. It is going to be a fun packed night for all the family.”
A third event on Friday, February 13, will be a race night. Rebecca said: “It is from 7pm until late. Tickets are £3 at Travellers Rest pub.
“We invite everyone to come along to our fundraising events to help our athletes’ dreams come true. Also any donations of any kind would be greatly appreciated and help us get that one step closer to achieving our goal.”
