AN academy is all set to host its next fundraising event as it bids to raise the money to get to a national finals.
The Hartlepool Hawks cheerleading academy have been given the opportunity to go to British National Championships which is being held in Telford on April 4 and 5.
A campaign of fundraising is under way to pay for the £5,000 cost of transport and fees. A fantastic £3,000 has already been raised.
Academy founder Rebecca Taylor said: “The only way our cheerleaders can attend nationals is if, together, we can raise enough money for the competition fees, transport and accommodation.”
Seven teams of Hawks have qualified for the prestigious tournament and that means 45 Hartlepool cheerleaders aged from four to 19 years all hoping to get to Shropshire.
On Sunday, February 8, a fundraising night will be held from 5pm to 9pm at Owton Manor Social Club.
Tickets are £3 and Rebecca said: “This night will include a showcase by the Hawks, fun and games, an auction, bingo, raffles and a disco. It is going to be a fun packed night for all the family.”
Another event on Friday, February 13, will be a race night. Rebecca said: “It is from 7pm until late. Tickets are £3 at Travellers Rest pub.”
More success for the Hawks would come just weeks after they performed well at the British cheerleading winter championships, which were held in Blackpool.
The Hawks took 20 routines to Blackpool and brought home 18 trophies. The Hawks also won the spirit awards which is given to the team which showed the most support to other teams as well as their own.
Cheerleaders, aged from four to 40, made up the Hawks team at the Blackpool championships. Now they’re hoping to add to their success.
