PEOPLE got right in time during a dance session.

Over 50s came together for a dance taster session at the Headland Sports Centre.

The plan is now to build on the success and take people’s comments on board to structure a programme of activity to be delivered on a weekly basis.

Organised by Hartlepool Borough Council’s Feel Good in Hartlepool team, the class offered over 50s the chance to learn some new moves and improve their fitness.

The class, which was held on Monday, March 16, was led by representatives from Nouveau Dance and Fitness, and attracted a good turnout.

Ryan Houghton, multi-sport and dance activator, said: “The taster session went really well, we had 48 people in attendance and the feedback we received was positive.

“It was an opportunity for older people to try something innovative.”

People were taught a variety of dance styles including fitsteps, which blends ballroom and Latin into easy-to-learn dance moves, Bollywood, based on classic Indian dance styles and Zumba gold, a low-impact version of the aerobic dance for people over 50 or exercise beginners.

The success of the class now means the Feel Good in Hartlepool team are looking at holding more dance sessions in the future.

Ryan said: “The plan is now to build on the success and take people’s comments on board to structure a programme of activity to be delivered on a weekly basis.”

The Feel Good in Hartlepool project was launched back in January 2015 as a way to increase the people of Hartlepool’s participation in sports activities such as dance, triathlon, multi-sports, sailing and volunteering.

The scheme will receive £192,727 of National Lottery funding via Sport England over three years in the hope of getting more people active.
