A JUBILANT academy is celebrating after winning a string of trophies at a regional championships.
The Hartlepool Hawks cheerleading academy took part in the Legacy’s Regional Championship called Stand Strong at Northumbria University, and academy founder Rebecca Taylor said: “The children did really well and, most importantly, they enjoyed every minute of it.
“We took 11 teams, came back with 13 trophies, 2 grand champion awards, ten first places and one second place.”
But there was even better news for Rebecca and her team. She explained: “We also got a national qualification with the youth stunt group level 4 team who have earned a spot at the Legacy Nationals competition.”
The contest will be held at the Olympic Park in July.
And in another boost, said Rebecca: “Hartlepool Hawks have been given the opportunity to go to British National Championships which is being held in Telford on April 4 and 5.”
A campaign of fundraising will get under way to pay for the £5,000 cost of transport and fees. In the meantime, the Hawks are celebrating a string of top results at Northumbria University.
They included first places in the mini jazz, mini hip hop, youth jazz, youth hip hop, junior jazz and mini stunt group level 2. The team also took firsts in the stunt groups at youth level 3 and junior level 4, as well as the level 2 in youth cheerleading.
Victory also went to the junior cheer team level 3 and the academy also had two grand champions. Rebecca was also delighted at the team’s overall highest mark in mini/youth dance grand champion category with the Hawks Youth Jazz team, as well as the junior and senior dance grand champion, overall highest mark for the Hawks Junior Jazz team. On top of all that, the senior jazz section took second place.
Rebecca added: “A massive well done to all the Hawks teams. I am super proud of you all.”
