A HARTLEPOOL dance school is introducing a new type of workout which mixes drumming with dancing.

Chique Physique is starting a taster class of the full-body cardio jam session called Pound.

The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, isometric movements, plyometrics and Isometric poses into a 45-minute series, all to the beat of constant simulated drumming.

It helps people burn between 400 and more than 900 calories per hour – all while rocking out to your favourite music. The new classes will start in January.

Chique Physique is run by long-time friends Jasmin Beckett and Abbie Rowbotham who wanted to go into business together.

They talked of setting up their own studio for months and now, the two 22-year-olds have realised their dream after launching Chique Physigue in a unit in Cromwell Street in Hartlepool.

The business is a boutique-themed fitness and dance studio.

Jasmin, from the Burn Valley area of Hartlepool, has known Abbie, from the Fens area of the town, since they were both students at Manor College of Technology.

Both of them went on to study at Middlesbrough College where they achieved a Btec National Diploma in performing arts.

And both went to study at Phil Winston’s Theatreworks stage school academy in Blackpool.

Abbie said: “We are privileged to bring this fitness programme to Hartlepool and Chique physique fitness and dance studio. Such a good workout where you can really feel it working but still having an amazing time.

“It’s a programme that adults and children can participate in. Parent and child classes will be available too, so they can get fit together whilst having fun.”

She said the dance-style exercise was important especially as Hartlepool was battling a problem with child obesity.
