BIG BANG: Families turn out at Seaton Carew seafront to see the annual fireworks display.

A FIREWORKS display went off with a bang as thousands of families enjoyed a Bonfire Night extravaganza.

Seaton Carew seafront was packed for the annual event, which this year took place on Bonfire Night rather than the nearest weekend as has been tradition over the last few years.

The seafront was a hive of activity from 4pm with families enjoying the entertainment and fairground rides before deputy ceremonial mayor, Councillor Mary Fleet, led the countdown to the main attraction of the display.

The spectacular display, accompanied by music and with a theme of ‘Fire and Ice’, lit up the skies and families watched on in delight as thousands of pyrotechnics were shot into the air.

There were similar scenes in Peterlee, where East Durham families gathered at Helford Road playing fields for their display.

A children’s entertainer kept the crowds amused, while there were fairgrounds rides and other attractions before the fireworks got under way at 6.30pm.
