A shopping centre in Jarrow will be attracting some strange and wild animals with a programme of free family entertainment.

As part of Animal Encounters, there will be a 13ft dinosaur at the Viking Centre on Thursday, August 4.

An intrepid palaeontologist and his assistant will come face to face with the prehistoric animal and witness the hatching of its baby.

There will be an assortment of animals in the centre on Thursday, August 11, with the PicknMix’s Animal Adventures Mini Zoo.

Youngsters can see a monitor lizard as well as skunks, snakes, rabbits and ducks and a host of creepy crawlies .

A crocodile will do battle with Mr Punch & Judy on Thursday, August 18, when Professor Brian Llewellyn brings his traditional puppet show to the centre.

And Marilyn will paint animal faces on children enjoying the entertainment

Finally, on Thursday, August 25, there will be a Teddy Bear’s Picnic with Eddie the Bear.

Children taking their bears along can have a free teddy health check.

Centre manager Lee Kimber said: “Our young shoppers really enjoyed the zoo set up in the centre earlier this year and we thought it would be great to organise some family fun over the summer holiday that featured animals,.

““Particularly impressive will be the 13ft dinosaur.”

The children’s entertainments are not supervised play schemes and parents are requested to stay with their children and join in with the fun. Organisers say some acts are dependent on weather conditions and can be subject to change.

The dinosaur invasion is on at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm.
