It’s National Curry week - but where are you tucking in?
As the weather is getting colder, it’s the perfect excuse (not that you need one) to go for a warming curry.
National Curry Week is starting tomorrow (Monday, October 12) – so you’ll be spoilt for choice in Hartlepool.
We took to TripAdvisor to find out where members of the community had chosen as their favourite Indian eateries.

Saffron Express, York Road, Hartlepool
Coming first in the town’s chart of curry houses isn’t enough for Saffron Express. The exotic restaurant also manages to sneak into the top 10 for the whole of Hartlepool. Reviewers have hailed it as: “the only place to go,” “spot on” and “perfect every time”.
Mumbai Majestic Indian Dining, Grand Hotel, Hartlepool
Opt for an old favourite or work your way through the menu for something new for National Curry Week. Keith G, who said the Mumbai is his “favourite restaurant in Hartlepool”, added: “Everything about the Mumbai is ideal for us.”
Cafe India, Whitby Street, Hartlepool
If you want an authentic taste of India, this is the restaurant for you. Take the traditional route, and pop in for a midweek curry with style. NURSEWATTS said on TripAdvisor: “The food is superb and very well presented. Staff are helpful, friendly and attentive.
“The owner is extremely proud of his restaurant (and rightly so) and he is keen to hear any feedback and suggestions from customers.”
Masalla Lounge, York Road, Hartlepool
Eat your curry in or take it home from Masalla Lounge – the restaurant has received equal praise for both options. What’s your favourite dish?
Cinnamons, Navigation Point, Middleton Road, Hartlepool
Cinnamons has been described as “one of the best” in Hartlepool, with the latest reviewer praising the restaurant’s set menu option, which offers five courses for £8.95. Frank M said: “Ample portions, and a great choice of meals included in this amazing price.
“All washed down by ice cold Cobra beer....bliss!”
Spices – Hartlepool, Navigation Point, Middleton Road, Hartlepool
Take your pick from the buffet and enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner at Spices. Greta B, from Durham, said: “The food was excellent, lots of dishes to choose from and very good value for money.”
Popadoms, Slake Terrace, Hartlepool
A family-run restaurant on Hartlepool’s marina offers something different to the traditional. Martin F said he and his wife have been enjoying trying alternative dishes on the menu while T40caf, a regular customer reviewing in August, said: “It was fantastic.”
The Golden Gate, Church Street, Hartlepool
With friendly service, excellent food and a fantastic atmosphere, The Golden Gate can deliver exactly what you need for National Curry Week.
Indian Cottage, York Road, Hartlepool
This little hidden gem has only three reviews – but they are something special. Misterbroon333 described it as the best Indian restaurant in Hartlepool “by a country mile”. He added: “Great portions, superb flavour, you can taste every individual spice, naan to die for, every grain of rice is cooked perfectly and is separate.
“There is not a single thing I can criticise about ‘The Cottage’ and I should know - I get a takeaway three times a week minimum.”
Chilli N Spice, Murray Street, Hartlepool
For delicious fresh food and a no-fuss takeaway, TriipAdvisor users are recommending Chilli N Spice. Hpool 35 said: “We have tried most Indians in hartlepool and never go anywere else now, the food is to die for.”
