RESIDENTS are being urged to get themselves along to a family fun day this weekend.
The ceremonial mayor of Hartlepool’s Community Fun Day takes place this year at Rift House Recreational Ground, off Kingsley Avenue, on Saturday, August 23, from 10am to 3pm.
The event is organised by ceremonial mayor councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher in partnership with Rift House East Residents’ Association, Belle Vue Community Sports and Youth Centre and Hart Gables.
One of the highlights of the packed programme will be the Frozen Show – the characters Olaf, Elsa, Anna and Kristoff from the smash-hit animated Disney film Frozen – will be performing songs from the movie.
There will be children’s and adults’ fairground rides, a circus skills workshop, a fire engine, storytelling and craft activities, live music from the band Groovy Street, wet sponge stocks, a magician and a chance for people to test the speed of their striking skills in a football speed cage.
Local pooches will be able to strut their stuff in a dog show, there will be displays by the popular Hawks Cheerleading Troupe, face-painting, army recruitment, stalls selling fancy goods and tasty treats and an opportunity to meet cuddly pigs, ponies, guinea pigs and other animals from the OFCA Farm.
Coun Akers-Belcher said: “The Fun Day is an opportunity for people to come together and celebrate Hartlepool’s wonderful community spirit.
“With everything from a dog show and fairground rides to the characters from Disney’s Frozen, we’ve got something for everyone in our packed programme, so come and join us for a great day out for the whole family.”
There will also be a car boot sale, costing £5 per pitch – set-up time 8am. Entry to the fun day is free but charges will apply at some of the stalls. Proceeds from the event will go to the Mayor’s chosen charities for this year – the RNLI, Hartlepool & District Hospice, the Great North Air Ambulance and Miles For Men.
