A SUCCESSFUL town choir is looking to add to its ranks to continue making sweet music.
Hartlepool Male Voice Choir has recently lost a number of members due to a combination of illness, work commitments and moving away from the area.
But choir leaders say there has never been a better time for budding singers to join them as they start to rehearse for one of their highlights of the year, the Annual Christmas Concert.
The popular festive show at The Borough Hall will also form the basis of the choir’s concert programme for 2015 which will include a summer performance with an as yet unnamed international star.
Choir chairman Duncan Graham said: “There is little more satisfying than the buzz you get from the applause of an audience who are all having a great time.
“You don’t have to be able to read music, you just have to enjoy singing.
“Our Musical Director teaches us all we have to know.”
Potential members will be made welcome at their rehearsal nights on any Friday in The Corner Flag near Mill House at 7.30pm.
Duncan added: “Come alone or bring a friend and don’t be put off by the illusion that we all know what we are doing. We all had to start somewhere and have all been a ‘beginner’ in the past.”
The choir is looking forward to taking part in several prestigious events next year including a Choral Spectacular at The Sage in Gateshead, a joint concert with Hartlepool Ladies’ Choir for the Mayor’s Charity, the summer celebrity concert in June and Festival of Brass and Voices for Cancer UK at the Royal Albert Hall.
On top of that the choir is booked to perform at a number of concerts locally.
The choir has around 70 members whose ages range from early 20s to late 80s and come from all sorts of backgrounds.
More information about the work of the choir is available on their website at www.hartlepoolmvc.co.uk.
