AN acoustic tribute to the lead singer of a 1980s rock band is to take place this weekend.

Teesside-based musician Andy Johnson is to take off Paul Heaton – who was the lead singer of famous alternative rock band The Housemartins.

The tribute gig has been organised by the Greatham Sports Field Association, a voluntary group which works tirelessly to raise funds for the upkeep and development of Greatham Village’s sports field.

The event will take place in The Bull and Dog, on the High Street, in Greatham, this Saturday, February 7.

Doors open at 7.15pm and tickets cost £5 which are available from behind the pub bar, by ringing the pub on (01429) 870240, or by logging onto the Greatham Sports Field Association Facebook page.

All proceeds from the night will go to the association.

The Housemartins were an English alternative rock band formed in Hull.

It was active in the 1980s with hits including Happy Hour and Caravan of Love.
