LIVE REVIEW: Hot Chip, 6 Music Festival, The Sage Gateshead

A PROPER party atmosphere was in full swing as 6 Music Festival’s Saturday night came to a close.

To a packed Hall One, the seven-strong band stormed through their hits as the dance floor was swept along by hit after hit.

One Life Stand, Ready For The Floor and Night and Day kept the crowd moving.

Watching from the seats above, we could see there were groups moving all the way from the very front to the back of Hall One, with plenty more in the upper levels also enjoying losing themselves in the beats.

We even spotted a bunch of lads who stripped their T-shirts off like in clubs way back when.

As with many dance bands, it’s a wholly different experience to hear album tracks and singles be brought to life live, with twists and added sounds giving the songs a whole new lease of life.

I particularly enjoyed the steel drum sound which was added in to One Life Stand and a couple of others along the way.

I’ve waited almost 10 years to see Hot Chip live, and lining them up as the last act of the night in Hall One topped off a brilliant night of the festival.

Tune into the 6 Music Festival across the weekend, see performances at www.bbc.co.uk/6music and highlights will be on BBC Red Button across the week.
