A music festival will be on the bill at Jacksons Landing for the first time after the event got the go ahead.
We Are Family will make its debut on Saturday, September 19, in Hartlepool Marina, after it was given the approval of planning and licensing chiefs at the council.
It will showcase talent from across the North East, and will be curated by Hartlepool collective The Jar Family.
Funding through its label, Jar Records, and Camerons brewery, the organisers say it will breathe new life into the disused Jacksons Landing site.
They also promise festival goers – who will be able to enjoy 15 acts across two stages – will be able to sample beer and food from across the region.
The team behind it hope the £6 entry will make it accessible and say the event will be self-sufficient, which could pave the way for future use of the venue.
This is proof people are wanting to come in and invest in our town and put events on.Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher
The application for a change of use from retail to events and festival site was approved unanimously by councillors on Hartlepool Borough Council’s planning committee yesterday.
Councillors Ray Martin-Wells and Marjorie James said there had been no complaints when the area staged the Tall Ships races in 2010.
Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher, said: “I think the application demonstrates that the vision is starting to work in Hartlepool. This is proof people are wanting to come in and invest in our town and put events on.
“This is just the start of many exciting things to come in the marina and Jacksons Landing area.
“We must remember, this will bring hundreds, if not thousands of people to our town.”
The Tees Music Alliance will host the Marina Stage at the event.
Known for hosting Stockton Calling music festival and running The Georgian Theatre and Green Room venues, also in Stockton.
Paul Burns, who is director of the alliance, a not-for-profit organisation, said: “We are very excited to be part of the We Are Family Festival, the ethos of the event is a perfect fit with our organisation, and provides us with an exciting opportunity to further benefit local musicians and their audiences, while supporting local industries and the community.”
The main sage will host Smoove and Turrell; The Jar Family; Frankie and The Heartstrings; Parastatic; Boy Jumps Ship; Shields; and Mouses.
The Marina Stage will welcome Hyde and Beast; The Lake Poets; Kingsley Chapman; Para Alta; Kosoti; Street Party In Soho; Shoot The Poet and Cape Cub.
