OPERA star Lesley Garrett was back in Hartlepool to once again wow audiences with her vocal talents.
Hartlepool Male Voice Choir performed alongside Lesley for a second time on Saturday at the Borough Hall.
Lesley, who is well known from many stage and screen appearances, first performed with the male voice choir two years ago in a memorable sell out show.
Mick Waller, secretary of the group, said: “It was brilliant and she was over the moon with how it went.
“She was glad to be back and she really liked it.
“She did about six pieces in each half and two with the choir.
“Usually they do 20 minute slots but she was happy to sing as much as she could.
“She had a standing ovation and came back on and did two more songs.
“She even wanted to sing more but it was getting late and people had taxis booked.”
Lesley’s appearance in town came fresh from her successful return to opera in a demanding one-woman show.
She recently won top reviews from critics for her performance in Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice) for Opera North in Leeds.
But the night was not a sell out as had been hoped and Mr Waller said the choir will now be looking for another performer to join them on stage for next year’s show.
The choir has held a series of successful celebrity summer concerts for a number of years with Russell Watson performing twice and Aled Jones also coming to Hartlepool.
Mr Waller added: “Lesley was brilliant and she would gladly come back.
“But maybe we need someone new for next year as Lesley has been twice now.”
