A POPULAR compere is set to give fans a treat when he performs his own solo comedy show this week.

Matt Reed, who comperes Hartlepool’s Hot Potato, Middlesbrough’s Big Mouth, Stockton’s Catch 22, and Saltburn’s Brass Neck Comedy Clubs, is performing his stand up show at Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre, in Raby Road, on Friday.

The Sunderland-based comic hand-picked Hartlepool for this rare solo show and he can’t wait to take to the stage.

Matt said: “I hadn’t intended doing another one-man show this year, but Hartlepool was just too tempting.

“Hot Potato is basically one of my favourite gigs.

“It’s always one of the best crowds to banter with, always up for a laugh, and almost like one big happy family.”

Looking forward to his sharply-titled show Look At My Bloody Brilliant Poster, Matt said: “A lot of people have probably seen me compere and be chatty, and that’s what I’m going to be - chatty.

“The title of the show was just an extra joke. Most one-man shows are themed, but I don’t write like that.

“I like the night to go wherever it goes because of what happens on the night – like all good nights should.”

He said the best crowds he has played to are at Hot Potato, Catch 22, Big Mouth and Brass Neck comedy clubs.

Popular Matt added: “The best gigs are always the most unexpected. I’ve been held above a bouncer’s head, I’ve been topless, naked and I’ve got a 19-year-old boy his first kiss off a girl in front of 2,000 people at a festival.

“I’ve done gigs in a cave, up a mountain, too drunk, too ill, and with broken ribs.

“But I love my job and I can’t see it changing anytime soon.”

Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm.

Tickets for the gig cost £10 and are available from the box office at Hartlepool Tourist Information Centre, in Church Square, Hartlepool, or by calling (01429) 890000.
