An Introduction to Ballet is an hour-long, entertaining and in-depth introduction to the world of ballet, demystifying the language, the artistry and the practicalities of all the leaps and lifts. These inclusive, relaxed experiences aim to prove that ballet really is for everyone.

Each session includes a short performance featuring company dancers, accompanied by a pianist and a speaker. The dancers will show you how they prepare for a show, from class to rehearsal, right through to a performance of a pas de deux. Ballet master Dominic Antonucci will be on hand to guide you through the evening and tell you more about the intriguing art of ballet.

We also have a family ticket of four to give away to First Steps, which takes place on April 5 at 1pm. Younger audience members (age 3+) can experience the magic with Birmingham Royal Ballet’s hour-long adaptation of the ballet narrated by a storyteller, who guides the audience through a feast of dance, music, costumes and lots of fun.

To be in with a chance of winning email [email protected] with your name, contact details and which workshop you’d like to attend by noon on April 3.

•Coppélia tells the story of eccentric toymaker Dr Coppélius, who causes a stir when he tries to bring his greatest creation, the doll Coppélia, to life. In one of the ballet’s most iconic scenes, Swanilda sneaks into Dr Coppélius’s workshop and tricks him into believing that the doll has come to life indeed.

The ballet is at Sunderland Empire from April 5-7. Tickets available in person at the Box Office on High Street West, from the Ticket Centre on 0844 871 3022 or online at www.ATGtickets.com/Sunderland
