Taking part in a Boxing Day Dip is a fantastic way to blow away the cobwebs after your slap-up turkey lunch and a few sherries – and if this sounds like it's up your street, we have everything you need to know about this year’s event in Hartlepool.

Hosted by Hartlepool Round Table, the Boxing Day Dip takes place each year at Seaton Carew and attracts dozens of keen punters from across the town and beyond to take the plunge.

The costumes are colourful, spirits are high and the weather is always, always cold. But it’s a great morning out and a wonderful way to raise money for a cause close to your heart.

Here’s everything we know about the event so far.

What time and where is it on?

Dippers and spectators can meet at The Marine Hotel at The Front, Seaton Carew, from 10am where breakfast buns and hot drinks will be served.

The parade will then leave the hotel at 11.30am down to the seafront and into the sea! According to the Hartlepool Round Table website, there will be a new parade route this year.

Dippers will set off from the Marine Hotel car park and head north, before crossing the main road at the junction with Station Lane and then use the slipway ramp to access the beach.

It’s then time to head for the water!

Where can I change?

After the dip, the Marine Hotel is providing six changing rooms for participants to dry off, warm up and change.

Who does it raise money for?

A sponsorship form is also available online, where you can choose the charity of your choice.
