Likey or no lighty for Liam?

A LIFEGUARD is hoping he will make a big splash with TV audiences when he puts his heart on the line tonight.

Confident Liam Lewis will be trying to get a date on ITV’s Take Me Out at 8.20pm.

The 23-year-old will aim to impress 30 women on the hit show with the help of host Paddy McGuinness and video footage of him living and working in Hartlepool.

During each round, the glammed-up women have the chance drop out from a prospective date by turning off their light, to the catchphrase “no likey, no lighty”.

If any are left at the end, Liam will get to choose who he goes on holiday with to the “love island of Fernando”, which is really Cyprus.

Liam, who is a lifeguard on Seaton Carew beach during the summer, is having a party tonight with friends and family, who are all keen to see how he gets on in the pre-recorded programme.

And he admits to being nervous about how he will come across to a TV audience of around five million people.

Liam, who is staying tight lipped about whether he had any success, said: “I enjoyed it, it was a great experience.

“It was nerve racking standing in front of 30 girls and an audience of 500 people, but it was fun.

“I hope people enjoy watching it and I come across well. I felt it went ok, but you never know how they’ll edit it or how it will look.

“They seemed keen on me being a lifeguard so I think it will focus on that.”

It is not the first time Liam, who went to Henry Smith School and New College Durham, will have starred on TV.

He went all the way to South America in 2010 as one of 10 hopefuls battling it out for 10,000 in 101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow on BBC1.

And although he left the show empty handed, as well as with a few bruises, Liam was not put off being a TV contestant.

He spent months trying to get on Take Me Out, going to Leeds to audition and welcoming TV crews to his home in Hart Lane, Hartlepool, as producers checked to see if he was a suitable contestant.

And the house will be a busy place again tonight as his mum, Denise Lewis, has invited around 60 people over to watch Liam’s big moment together.

Liam, who also works as a sports development worker for Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “We have about four TVs set up and there are loads of people coming. It should be a big one.”

But the Teesside University graduate will have to take it easy as he is due to head back to the studios tomorrow morning to film Take Me Out: The Gossip, a sideshow to the main programme presented by The Only Way Is Essex Star Mark Wright and Zoe Hardman, which will be shown next week.
