Hartlepool police issue warning against school leavers parties and say they will take action

With Year 11 students due to finish school soon and the Whit half-term holidays approaching, Hartlepool Neighbourhood Policing Team say they are aware of social media posts talking about plans for large parties.

In the past they have led to antisocial behaviour including youngsters being drunk.

Police are appealing to pupils and parents to try to prevent similar problems and also reminding them that large gatherings of more than 30 people outside are still currently banned under Covid rules.

And they say they will be carrying out regular patrols and dealing with anyone caught drinking or causing trouble.

The neighbourhood police team said in a statement: “Everyone understands that youngsters have had a particularly difficult year with the impact of Covid however restrictions on large gatherings remain in place to protect us all.

“Police are aware of posts on social media discussing large leavers’ parties in the town.

“Historically such events have caused problems with antisocial behaviour and police have attended reports of children becoming intoxicated.

“We don’t want anyone to end their school life being spoken to by police about possessing alcohol or behaving antisocially.

“Our team is patrolling regularly and anyone identified as causing antisocial behaviour will be dealt with and alcohol seized and details taken.

“We’d appeal to parents to remind their youngsters to stay safe and for them to check what their plans are.”

Due to Covid, Year 11 students are not required to sit their GCSEs once again this year.
