It has been made possible thanks to a new partnership between Hartlepool Borough Council’s Family Hubs and Solihull Approach, a trusted provider of online courses for children's emotional health and wellbeing.

The Solihull Approach is a not-for-profit, NHS organisation for parents to support emotional health and wellbeing in children, families and adults.

Designed to support parents at every stage of their journey from pregnancy to adolescence, these courses empower parents to better understand their child's brain development, understand and manage their child’s behaviours, and develop nurturing relationships.

The aim is to foster kindness, confidence and emotional awareness in children, laying the foundation for them to thrive throughout their lives.

Hartlepool’s Family Hubs recognise the importance of nurturing emotionally-resilient and socially-aware children, and the partnership with Solihull Approach strengthens the Hubs’ online offer, providing a range of digital resources to support families from the comfort of their own – home, or any other location, to help them with any issues they may face.

Key highlights of the online courses include:

– Understanding your child's emotional health and brain development – Giving parents an understanding of the science behind their child's brain development, helping them make informed decisions that support healthy cognitive growth.

– Reading your child's behaviours – Giving parents the tools to interpret and respond effectively to their child's behaviours, fostering positive interactions and reducing stress for both parents and children.

– Developing communication – Helping parents learn strategies for open and effective communication that will strengthen the parent-child bond and promote emotional wellbeing.

The courses are also available in audio-only versions and also in Polish, Urdu, Chinese and other languages.

Councillor Jim Lindridge, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Children’s Services Committee, said: “We are delighted to forge this new partnership - investing in our children's emotional health is an investment in the future of our community.

“By providing free access to Solihull Approach's courses, we are giving parents the tools they need to support their children's wellbeing and growth.”
