An East Durham training provider has been judged as outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.

Northern Care Training in Peterlee got the grade in every area of provision - from quality of teaching, to learning and assessment, personal development, to behaviour and welfare.

To be awarded Ofsted ‘Grade 1 – Outstanding’ status across all areas of the business is remarkable as we are the only provider in the region operating in these sectors to achieve this and are within the top 5% nationally

It also covered outcomes for learners, apprenticeship provision, leadership and management, and overall effectiveness.

The report said learners “receive exceptional support to enable them to progress successfully in their career in ways that transform their lives.”

Apprentices were said to “rapidly gain a high level of confidence in working with others” and were able to “rise to the challenge of taking personal responsibility for making decisions.”

Praise was given towards NCT’s Training Advisors who “ensure that learners make exceptional progress” and have “high ambitions for their learners.”

The report highlighted the training provider’s “excellent links with employers” who they work closely with to “ensure learners have appropriate opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge.”

It was also highlighted that the training provider “works very effectively on community projects in educationally disadvantaged areas across the country.”

The business was purchased by the Profound Group in 2011.

Steven Ward, managing director of the Profound Group, said: “To be awarded Ofsted ‘Grade 1 – Outstanding’ status across all areas of the business is remarkable as we are the only provider in the region operating in these sectors to achieve this and are within the top 5% nationally. We are dedicated to giving our learners the best possible education so that they can excel in their work.

Judith Allen, group chief executive officer, said: “We have worked tirelessly over the past three years in our pursuit to be seen and recognised as outstanding. We have invested heavily in staff and their development, and this success is testament to their hard work and dedication.

“Both Steven and I would like to place on record our thanks to the staff and management teams who we consider to be amongst the best in the industry.”
