Norma Brown was one of them and remembered doing the dancing. She loved it, she said.

“Fantastic school, went there from 1955 to 1961. Mr Knocks was the headmaster, loved dancing round the maypole xx”

And she was not alone in dishing out the praise, or in remembering Mr Knocks.

Pamela Gouldburn said: “I started the day the school opened. Mr Knocks was headmaster.”
