Hartlepool families are invited to visit a pop-up healthy shop next week to promote the benefits of cycling and walking.

The Hartlepool Active Travel Hub will be running a “pop-up healthy travel shop” in the town’s Middleton Grange Shopping Centre on Wednesday February 17 from 9am to 5pm to promote alternatives to the car.

The day will offer the chance to ride several novelty bikes, including one that uses pedal-power to make smoothies, another that powers a Scalextric-style car racing kit and one that powers a gramophone. Visitors to the “shop”, located beside the BHS store, will be able to obtain information about local cycling and walking routes, local bus and train information and the Hartlepool Cycle Clinic which carries out bike repairs and servicing from its base at Summerhill Country Park.

Hartlepool Council’s Sustainable Travel Officer Tony Davison said: “Given that next week is half-term, we wanted the “shop” to have a number of fun interactive elements for the whole family.”
