One person has been taken to hospital after a fire in a flat in Hartlepool.

Firefighters were called to a report of a first floor flat on fire in Bruce Crescent shortly after 8pm last night, Wednesday, December 16.

Three Cleveland Fire Brigade appliances, from the Hartlepool and Headland stations, attended the incident

One person was rescued from the building and given oxygen therapy by Fire Brigade personnel at the scene before being transported to hospital by the North East Ambulance Service.

There was fire damage to the room where the blaze started and smoke had caused further damage to the rest of the flat.

Crews used four breathing apparatus and one hose reel to tackle the blaze. They then used a thermal image camera and positive pressure ventilation fan to make sure the property was safe and to clear the remaining smoke.

The incident was concluded shortly after 8.30pm and crews returned to station.
