Body found in Hartlepool street is confirmed as missing town man Malcolm Godfrey

Police have confirmed that a body found in a street is that of a man who was earlier reported missing.

A search was launched across Hartlepool on the morning of Monday, June 15, after concerns were raised about the whereabouts of Malcolm Godfrey.

Mr Godfrey, 58, was last seen at an address in the town’s Wansbeck Gardens on Sunday, June 14, at around 1pm.

A Cleveland Police statement on Monday afternoon revealed: “Police were called after a member of the public found the body of a man on Greatham Street, in Hartlepool, at around 8.30am this morning, Monday, June 15.

“The body has been identified as that of missing Malcolm Godfrey. His family has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
