Seven-vehicle accident closes southbound A19 near Hartlepool turn-off

Emergency services are at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision, which has closed the southbound carriageway of the A19.

Highways England confirmed the incident on Twitter on Wednesday, March 11 shortly before 10.30am and advised that Cleveland Police were in attendance at the collision.

The message said: “Full closure of the A19 southbound from the A179 junction due to a seven-vehicle accident.

“Traffic officers are on the way and Cleveland RPU (Cleveland Roads Policing) are on scene. Further updates to follow shortly.”

The force is advised motorists to seek alternative routes in the aftermath of collision, while clear-up work took place at the scene.

The route re-opened at around 11.20am on Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman confirmed to the Mail that the vehicles involved are a black Ford Focus, white Ford Transit van, grey Ford Focus, grey Land Rover, red Jaguar XF, black Mercedes A180 and white Peugeot Expert van.
