The Teessiders still have a chance of finishing in the play-offs this campaign but are seven points off the top six with 11 games to go.
With Boro frontmen Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher set to see their deals expire at the end of the campaign, Warnock knows his side could be left short in the attacking department.
Boro have struggled to find a regular goal scorer this season, with Duncan Watmore their top scorer on six in all competitions – despite the forward only arriving in November.
Warnock has already been looking at potential transfer targets and will be keeping an eye on players who will be out of contract this summer.
With financial uncertainty at many English clubs, there could be an opportunity for Boro to find a real bargain.

2. Martyn Waghorn (Derby)
Boro were interested in the versatile forward before he signed for Derby in 2018. The 31-year-old has only scored three league goals this season but showed he can still be a real handful during the Rams' 2-1 win over Neil Warnock's side in February. Photo: Laurence Griffiths
3. James Collins (Luton)
The 30-year-old has proved he can step up to the Championship over the last two seasons. After netting 14 league goals for Luton last term, Collins has scored seven times so far this campaign. Photo: George Wood
4. Connor Wickham (Crystal Palace)
Still only 27, the towering frontman hasn't played for Crystal Palace this season. Wickham looks set to leave Selhurst Park this summer following a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday last season. Photo: Alex Livesey
