Looking after your community since 1997

Anglian Water is the country’s largest water company by geographic area and has been proudly supplying water to households in Hartlepool since 1997.

The original water supplier was founded in 1846 by Sir John West as Hartlepool Gas and Water Company before being renamed Hartlepool Water in 1995. Hartlepool Water was then bought by Anglian Water in 1997 and has continued to operate as a water provider since then.

Supplying 96,000 customers locally

The water used to supply the town comes from local boreholes near Sedgefield, extracted from the limestone aquifers, and delivered onto the local water treatment facility at Dalton Piercey via underground pipes. The water treatment works at Dalton Piercey processes a staggering 32 million litres of water every single day – enough to fill 400,000 baths – removing any nasties along the way. This clean water then travels through pipes right to customers across the town, providing fresh, clean, high-quality drinking water.

Going the extra mile

Providing safe, clean water will always be Anglian’s priority. Water is its business, but the company is committed to going even further to support their local communities. Community is at the heart of the organisation’s values and purpose. That’s why they recently became the corporate sponsor of West Hartlepool RFC. As an organisation that acts as a positive force by supporting the health and wellbeing of the town, their community-driven focus is what makes them a great fit for Anglian.

Stepping up support

Anglian also stepped up to support its communities, launching the Positive Difference Fund in April 2020 to support more than 160 organisations. In Hartlepool, eight organisations have been supported, benefitting over 5,000 individuals, with a total investment so far of £32,756. This has given charities such as Kilmarnock Road Children and Young People Family Resource Centre extra funding to stockpile food and provide services for its young people, as well as allowing The Big League CIC to expand its ‘Meal on Wheels’ service, ensuring that local people can continue to receive their meals and emergency parcels during the pandemic.

Did You Know: Anglian Water is the only remaining water company in the country to have its own local cash office, encouraging local residents to visit to make payment or discuss any queries on their account?
