Plans have been approved for the Natwest Bank at unit 18 at The Chare in Castle Dene Shopping Centre.

Proposals relate to a number of vacant retail units within the town centre and aim to increase floorspace of units 19-28, including merging them into one larger shopping space and new shop frontages.

Durham County Council’s planning authority approved the plans on April 23.

A decision report reads: “Changing the use of the unit would not create any adverse impacts upon the Castle Dene Shopping Centre and its loss as a bank would not have a detrimental impact upon the viability of the shopping centre.

“The alterations to the shop front utilises white aluminium materials which is in keeping with other shop fronts within the shopping centre which is welcomed.”
