The Government has made it mandatory to wear face coverings in shops, indoor shopping centres and supermarkets in England from Friday, July 24, to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Middleton Grange shopping centre manager Mark Rycraft said: “Middleton Grange shopping centre is advising for members of the public to kindly protect themselves and others by wearing a face mask or covering while visiting the shopping centre.

"And, in keeping with the latest government guidance, we’d also like to remind customers that it is now compulsory to wear their facemasks or coverings when visiting all our stores.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the community for continuing to adapt positively to our new ways of operating at this time.”

Mr Rycraft said he was heartened by shoppers’ compliance with the new law.

A number of stores and shops in Middleton Grange are also stocking masks.

Masks or face coverings must also be worn in banks, building societies, and post offices now by law.

Boris Johnson announced the new rule on face coverings on July 12 after previously being made mandatory on public transport.

Police have the power to fine anyone £100 caught not covering up without a good reason.
