The store on Brenda Road was built to replace the smaller branch just a stone’s throw away on Teesbay Retail Park.

It opened at 8am this morning, Thursday, November 26, and will be run by manager Faye Hunter, and a team of 30 staff from the local area.

Store Manager Faye said: “It’s been a wonderful morning here at the opening of Aldi Brenda Road.

"It was lovely to welcome both familiar faces and new customers into the store and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.

“I’d also like to thank our customers for following the social distancing guidelines we have in place to ensure the health and safety of both our customers and colleagues.”

Its opening hours are 8am–10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am–4pm on Sundays.

A traffic light system has been introduced to control the number of people going in and out and to help customers to keep their distance due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Other measures include sanitisation stations on entry, Perspex screens at its tills and social distancing reminders in store.

During its opening week, the new Hartlepool store will be running its Big Toy Event, which includes a number of toys at special prices including FurReal Walkalots, Disney Frozen dolls and a Lexibook Powergirl or Powerman.

Customers can also take advantage of Aldi’s Specialbuys offers which are available every Thursday and Sunday.

Aldi’s opening comes just a day after national discount chain One Below opened its first Hartlepool store at Teesbay Retail Park.

It occupies the former Poundworld unit which closed after the chain went into administration two and a half years ago.
