Half a tonne of recycling materials are destroyed in Hartlepool business blaze

Emergency services were called to a fire at a recycling centre as half a tonne of recycling material were destroyed in the blaze.

Cleveland Fire Brigade were called to R & B Recycling on Baltic Street, in Hartlepool on Thursday, April 15, at 7.15pm last and spent three-quarters-of-an-hour tackling the blaze.

A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson said two engines attended and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

They said: “We can confirm we attended a fire at R & B Recycling, Baltic Street, Hartlepool - half a tonne of recycling material destroyed. Two engines attended. Engines arrived at 19.15 and away by 8pm.”

The brigade were also called at 8pm to tackle the latest in a series of coastal fires in the town.

Speaking after the incident near Hartlepool Golf Club, at Hart Warren, a spokesperson said: “It was a very small grass fire and we had one engine from Billingham in attendance.”
